Just two games into the Utah summer league, the Sixers working out at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine have been excited to see No. 3 overall draft pick Jahlil Okafor in game action.
With 33 points and 18 rebounds in two games, assistant coach Lloyd Pierce says he has been impressed by everything Okafor has shown so far.
“I don’t know what’s going on in the huddles, but his patience and his touch around the basket was impressive,” Pierce said. “It’s only summer league games, but we’ve seen it before — he gets a lot of attention. He gets double teams and they were forcing him to make passes, but that’s his life. That’s the way he’s been. He’s always going to command a lot of help and a lot of attention.”
Pierce said there won’t be too much trouble getting Okafor to mesh with a new team when league play opens up in Las Vegas.
“With some help and support from the other guys and everybody learning how to play with him, he’s going to be fine,” Pierce said. “It was great to see how he impacts the game whenever he’s on the floor.”
Jackson day to day
Point guard Pierre Jackson did not participate in scrimmages for a third straight day at the second-session minicamp, but did take part in some shooting drills. The point guard is nursing a strained groin and is day to day, though he says he will participate in summer league action in Las Vegas.

“He’s going to be way more involved [on Wednesday night],” Pierce said.
Furkan fires away
With 11 points and 14 rebounds in the Sixers’ summer league victory over the Celtics on Tuesday night in Utah, Furkan Aldemir was the talk around the gym at PCOM on Wednesday.

Aldemir’s three-point shooting had everyone abuzz (especially John Gonzalez). Considering the Turkish big man attempted just 1.8 shots per game with the Sixers last season and missed all five of the three-pointers he attempted, the enhanced perimeter game was big news.
Pierce and the coaching staff back in Philly were aware of the work Aldemir put in to improve his long-range shooting. For Pierce, it was nice to see Aldemir get a chance to show off the work he’s put in with a couple of three-pointers.
“He’s put up enough over the last couple of months so it was nice to see him knock down some,” Pierce said. “He’s working on things he might not have had the opportunity to do much in the past. He’s in tremendous shape and he puts in the time."
