Akame ga Kill! I pretty much avoided this anime initially, but finally watched it a few days ago and it was far better than I thought it would be. The irony of this opening, which was the 2nd one, is the fact that it is VERY Challenge of the Superfriendish! Where both opposing sides are shown along with their respective leaders and then all of the sub-factions of the cartoon.
What makes THIS ANIME stand out to me the most is that it mirrors much of what is going on right now here where things are clearly headed towards a breaking point of either accepting the status quo or openly opposing it. THAT is what stood out the most to me, because of the fact that many of the characters actually KNOW ONE ANOTHER or end up getting to know one another and it comes down to whether or not they support the corrupt government and its suppression/exploitation of its own people.
Or whether or not they join the rebellion and actively work to overthrow it. Shades of this anime draw from Romance of the 3 Kingdoms regarding certain characters and their role in everything. Bottom line, it is a very good anime AND IT IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. If you're someone who wants to be handheld and led about by the nose, this one SEEMINGLY appears to do it and then abruptly does what too much of movies and TV shows won't do!
They actually allow you to get to know BOTH SIDES. Which then draws you into how things like patriotism, nationalism, etc! Will allow people TO KNOW they are doing EVIL SHIT! But!? FOR THEM!? The status quo WORKS TO THEIR BENEFIT, SO!? They PROTECT, DEFEND, AND FIGHT FOR IT. I've already been told that this anime reminds some people of the way that I tend to write my stories, where BOTH SIDES are shown and given DEPTH! Not just the side I want the reader to root for. No matter what anyone says or how any of us try to rationalize it. People will always fight for what they believe in or support that which they believe in, no matter whether it is right or reprehensible. That is the beauty and the tragedy of what it means to be human....
