Selfe was born in Pretoria, and attended Diocesan College and the University of Cape Town.[2] After earning a master's degree, Selfe worked between 1979 and 1988 as a researcher for the Progressive Federal Party, the forerunner to today's Democratic Alliance. He became the party's communications director in 1988, and a member of the President's Council a year later. In 1992 he became an executive director of the party.[2]
The Progressive Federal Party (PFP) (Afrikaans: Progressiewe Federale Party) was a South African political party formed in 1977. It advocated power-sharing in South Africa through a federal constitution, in place of apartheid. Its leader was Colin Eglin, who was succeeded by Frederik van Zyl Slabbert and then Zach de Beer, but its best known parliamentarian was Helen Suzman, who was for many years the only member of the whites-only parliament to speak out against the apartheid regime.
It was formed in 1977 when a group of United Party members left the party to form the Committee for a United Opposition, which then joined the Progressive Reform Party to form the Progressive Federal Party.[1]
It drew support mainly from liberal English-speaking white people, as owing to South Africa's apartheid laws, its membership was limited to the country's whites. The PFP was derided by right-wing whites, who claimed its initials stood for 'Packing for Perth', because of the many white liberal supporters of the 'Progs', who were emigrating to Australia.[2]
Another well known parliamentarian and prominent member of the party was Harry Schwarz who had led the Reform Party and signed the Mahlabatini Declaration of Faith. He was the chairman of the Federal Executive (1976–79), finance spokesman (1975–91) and defence spokesman (1975–84). He was regarded as the PFP's greatest parliamentary performer[3] and was amongst the most prominent and effective opponents of apartheid in Parliament.
It was ousted as the official opposition by the far-right Conservative Party in the whites-only parliamentary elections held on May 6, 1987.
This electoral blow led many of the PFP's leaders to question the value of participating in the whites-only parliament, and some of its MPs left to form the New Democratic Movement (NDM).
In 1989, the PFP and NDM merged with another small white reformist party, the Independent Party (IP), to form the Democratic Party (DP).
Selfe was elected to the Senate - later National Council of Provinces - in 1994. In 1999 he stayed in parliament, but moved to the National Assembly.[2] He has remained a member of parliament since then, and is currently the party's correctional services spokesperson, in addition to being chair of the DA Federal Executive.[2]
In April 2009, Selfe filed the DA's founding affidavit in the Pretoria High Court for a judicial review of the National Prosecuting Authority's decision to drop charges against presidential front runner Jacob Zuma.[3]
So? Understand that Whites have no problem "sharing power" as long as THEY GET TO KEEP THEIR ILL-GOTTEN GAINS, which means...?

With an M16 and a side-arm and kill whatever Viet-Cong they encountered TILL THEY GOT THEMSELVES KILLED. He then reminded me that Tunnel Rats HAD TO BE HIS HEIGHT, well under 5'9" so they could face off against the Viet-Cong who were NATURALLY THE SAME HEIGHT! And THUS HE POINTED OUT that THEY COULD STAND UPRIGHT IN THE TUNNELS AND RUN AND WALK AND FIGHT!
While MOST AMERICANS ARE NEARLY 6' SO IT IS IMPOSSIBLE, SO!?
As usual, the Whites FORCED US, picked through ALL THE BLACK SOLDIERS AND TOOK THE SMALLEST OF US AND CREATED UNITS AND FORCED US INTO THESE SAME TUNNELS THAT THE WHITE SOLDIERS WERE DEATHLY AFRAID OF!
Thus the term Tunnel Rats, because the Whites called the Viet-Cong, RATS. And it was Our Job to go down there and kill whatever we found till we either cleaned them out...!?
Or got killed ourselves.

And I type this because when I read about the Democratic Alliance Party of South Africa I see the same BULLSHIT RUN HERE BY THE WHITES HERE. All these LOFTY PROMISES while NEVER HAVE BEEN HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE WRONGS ALREADY DONE AND STILL BEING DONE.
But somehow this is supposed to be UNIMPORTANT.
To how Their Words and supposed "actions" are to be treated today....
