‘Star Trek’ Star Nichelle Nichols Suffers Stroke
Nichelle Nichols, best know for her role as Lt. Uhura in “Star Trek,” suffered a stroke in her Los Angeles home on Wednesday night.
Her rep Zach McGinnis announced the news on Facebook.
“Last night while at her home in L.A., Nichelle Nichols suffered from a mild stroke,” McGinnis wrote. “She is currently undergoing testing to determine how severe the stroke was. Please keep her in your thoughts.”
Nichols was next scheduled to appear at New Jersey’s Eternal Con on June 13 and 14.
Nichols, 82, appeared in the original “Star Trek” TV series, which ran from 1966-1969, as well as the “Star Trek” movies. She also played the role of Nana Dawson in the ABC show “Heroes,” and voiced characters in the TV series “Futurama,” “Gargoyles” and “Spider-Man.”

After suffering a "minor stroke" last week, Star Trek actress Nichelle Nichols is "going to get to go home soon," the actress posted on her Facebook page.
Nichols, who played communications officer Lt. Uhura on the '60s Star Trek TV series, also thanked co-star George Takei and fans for their support.
Earlier, Nichols' rep Zach McGinnis posted that an MRI showed she had a "minor stroke." He added on Friday that Nichols, who was awake, alert and cheerful the night before, "She will start therapy this morning to evaluate how much damage was done, and try to determine her chances for a full or partial recovery. The therapists will test her hand at writing and legs to see if she can stand and walk on her own."
She also posted on Friday that she's "feeling much better."
McGinnis had said on Thursday night that Nichols' "right side has shown minor signs of mobility loss but she is not showing any signs of paralysis."
He too thanked fans for their support.
McGinnis has not yet responded to The Hollywood Reporter's request for comment.
